Kylie Jacobs' inspiration for the Female Friendly Accreditation Program came one morning after a local radio programme/phone in showed her how important it was to be recognised as a Female Friendly business.

After owning and running a Tyre and Mechanical store for years and being married to a mechanic with over 20 years experience, their own family run mechanical business had always promoted itself as being “female friendly" and responsive to the needs of women. When the local radio station had calls from women reporting on bad experiences with mechanics, Kylie was delighted to hear one of her own customers ringing in and promoting Kylie's mechanic business as being one which a woman would be happy to use!

As a result Kylie's store received a lot of calls from women looking for mechanics who were responsive to the needs of women. Kylie knew straight away that there was a niche out there that hadn’t been met. The powerful influence of the female consumer, if catered to, would be an advantage to any business.

By having businesses take part in an accreditation program, to ensure that they met certain criteria, the business would benefit AND the women would love it. The criteria was developed, aimed at making women feel comfortable and confident when they went to a business.

The most powerful reassurance of all the criteria was a verbal recommendation (word of mouth) so Kylie started asking ladies to provide letters of recommendations (testimonials) about their local businesses, to display on the Female Friendly website.

It started with just mechanics, however once Kylie and her sister Caroline appeared on Channel 7 Sunrise just 6 weeks into starting Female Friendly, businesses all over Australia wanted to be recognized at Female Friendly. These businesses all understood, and pride themselves, on catering to this powerful female demographic.

Female Friendly Accreditation is introducing new industries and members every week from all around Australia, from builders and plumbers to beauticians and insurance companies.

Today Kylie Jacobs, with the help of her sisters Elizabeth Grace and Caroline Davis and the Female Friendly team, has grown Female Friendly into a national company and looking at becoming international, and always simply looking after women.

The Female Friendly logo is the new symbol of respect and care.
